How Much Does an Online Fitness Coach Cost? (UK Guide)

By Maciej Nowicki · Updated 26 August 2026

In the UK, an online fitness coach costs between £50 and £300+ per month in 2026. Workout apps run £10–£40, template plans £50–£100, and genuine 1-1 coaching £150–£300. My own coaching is £249/month rolling with no tie-in — and this guide explains exactly what each price actually buys.

Infographic: how much an online fitness coach costs in the UK — workout apps £10–£40, template coaching £50–£100, genuine 1-1 coaching £150–£300, in-person PT £240–£560 per month

I'm Mac — I've been coaching for nine years and I charge £249 a month, so unlike most articles about online fitness coach costs, this one isn't hiding the number until the end. Here's what online coaching costs in the UK, why the range is so wide, and how to work out which price band you actually need.

What online fitness coaching costs in the UK in 2026

The word “coaching” gets stuck on everything from an app subscription to a genuine 1-1 relationship, which is why prices look chaotic. Split it into what you're really buying and the market is quite orderly:

UK online fitness coaching costs by service type, 2026
Service typeTypical UK costWhat it really isWho it suits
Workout apps£10–£40 /monthPre-built programmes, zero human contactSelf-starters who just need a plan to follow
"Template" coaching£50–£100 /monthA templated plan with your name on it; check-ins are automated or monthlyPeople happy to self-manage with light structure
Genuine 1-1 online coaching£150–£300 /monthPersonalised plan, weekly human reviews, direct access to the coachPeople whose real problem is consistency and accountability
In-person personal trainer£240–£560 /month£30–£70 per session, typically two sessions a weekPeople who need hands-on form coaching in the room
UK monthly cost ranges at a glance
Workout apps£10–£40/mo
Template coaching£50–£100/mo
Genuine 1-1 online coaching£150–£300/mo
In-person PT (2×/week)£240–£560/mo

That middle band matches what UK lifters say among themselves — on the UK-Muscle forum, the going assumption for a proper online coach is £200–£300 a month. Anything far below that is usually a template wearing a coaching badge.

What changes the price of an online fitness coach

Four things separate a £60 coach from a £250 one, and none of them is the logo:

How much does MN Online Coach cost?

My 1-1 coaching is £249/month, rolling — no tie-in. No 12-week tie-in, no cancellation dance. For that you get a personalised training plan in the Trainerize app with video run-throughs, a flexible nutrition approach built on your numbers, weekly 1-1 check-ins with me, daily access between them, and form reviews on your lifts.

If £249 is genuinely out of reach right now, the 28-Day Lock In & Lean Out Blueprint is a one-off £197: four weeks, four live 1-1 calls, food set properly and a daily structure — the honest starting point rather than a cheap rolling subscription that quietly renews.

Tom's transformation with MN Online Coach — from 160kg to under 90kg
What the money buys, in one picture: Tom came to me at over 160kg after being burned by cheaper 12-week coaches. Eighteen months of proper coaching later he shot at under 90kg.

Cheap online coach vs expensive: what you're actually buying

I'll say the quiet bit out loud: most of the £50–£100 “coaching” tier is a template business. That's not a scam — a good template beats no plan — but you should know you're buying a product, not a coach. The tell is simple: if the answer to “what happens when I have a terrible week?” is an automated message, nobody is coaching you.

The expensive tier isn't automatically better either. Above £300 you're often paying for a brand name or a big team where an assistant answers as the famous coach. Price tells you the category; the three questions below tell you the quality.

Three questions that beat any price comparison

FAQs: online fitness coach costs in the UK

How much does an online personal trainer cost per month in the UK?
Between £50 and £300+ depending on what's behind the word “trainer”. Apps run £10–£40, templated plans £50–£100, and genuine personalised 1-1 coaching £150–£300 a month. UK lifters generally treat £200–£300 as the going rate for a proper coach.
Is online coaching cheaper than an in-person personal trainer?
Usually, yes — and by a lot per hour of value. In-person PT in the UK costs £30–£70 a session, so two sessions a week is £240–£560 a month for two hours of contact. Online coaching at £150–£300 covers your training, nutrition and accountability all week, not just the hours in the room.
How much should I pay for an online fitness coach?
Match the band to your actual problem. If you just need a plan, pay £10–£40 for an app. If your problem is that you've had plans and still rebounded — that's a consistency problem, and it's only fixed in the genuine 1-1 band. Paying £60 for a template to solve an accountability problem is the most expensive option of all, because it fails.
Do online fitness coaches have contracts or tie-ins?
Many lock you into 12-week or 6-month terms. Mine is rolling monthly with no tie-in — I'd rather keep clients through results than through a contract. Always check before you pay, and be suspicious of anyone who won't say plainly.
What if I can't afford £249 a month?
Then don't pay it — do the free groundwork first. Get your numbers from my free TDEE calculator, and if you want a taste of coached structure, the 28-day Blueprint is £197 once, with no subscription attached.
